We believe our justice system must follow the moral and legal principles set forth in the United States Constitution. All too often these rights have been reserved for white people and limited for people of color.
Equal protection under the law has all too often been an empty promise. The rights conveyed in our Constitution must match what actually happens in the real world. Equal rights on paper only is not good enough. If a black person is four times more likely to be killed by a police officer than a white person, “equal protection” has become an empty promise.
