I grew up in Lewiston, Idaho, right on the Washington border along the Snake River. Much of my childhood was spent deep in the wilderness of Northern Idaho, hunting, fishing, skiing and hiking.

After high school, I went to a small college in upstate New York, Colgate University, where I double majored in Economics and Chinese Language and Literature. After college, I moved to Seattle and worked in the private sector for two years. Upon deciding that the corporate world was not a good fit for me, I returned to Idaho for law school.

In law school, I was able to follow my passion – helping those who need it most. My first year of law school, I took a trip to New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and helped people with legal problems. What I saw there changed my life forever. I didn’t meet greedy “freeloaders”; I met humble working class folks who were struggling to survive after losing everything. These people were thankful for everything they had, including any assistance from FEMA. I met families of five living in a small one room FEMA trailer. My second year in law school, I was the president of law school's Public Interest Law Group and led another group to the Gulf Coast for hurricane relief efforts, this time to Biloxi, Mississippi, partnering with the Mississippi Center for Justice. We spent a week in Biloxi working with folks still deeply affected by Hurricane Katrina.

During a summer in law school, I worked in New Orleans at the Capital Post-Conviction Project of Louisiana. At CPCPL, I met many incredible attorneys doing very challenging work representing those on death row in Louisiana. While I was living in New Orleans, I went through the most difficult experience on my life – losing my younger brother, Clay. Always a champion of the less fortunate, I try every day to honor Clay by helping those most in need.

While in law school, I was the first ever law student to receive the Pro Bono Award from the Idaho State Bar Association. I was also honored by my law school classmates with the "Above and Beyond Award" in recognition of completing over 400 hours of pro bono service in Law School and the Outstanding Student Service Award for service to the law school.

In 2009, I finished law school and passed the Idaho state bar. I worked for a year in a small town in Idaho clerking for a district court judge, working a wide range of cases including murder trials, construction disputes, and even cattle theft! After my clerkship, I worked for two and a half years for the State of Idaho at the Appellate Public Defender. At the SAPD, I defended those unable to afford an attorney in Idaho’s appellate courts. This included oral arguments before the Idaho Court of Appeals and high profile capital cases in district court. While at the SAPD, I also attended Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyer College death penalty seminar, learning from some of the best trial lawyers from around the country.

Since moving to Vancouver, Washington in 2013, I have been working for the Scott Horenstein Law Firm and The Henderson • Taylor Law Firm. In 2016 I became a Partner at the Henderson • Taylor Law Firm. I'm an Eagle Member of the Washington State Association for Justice and a member of the Family Law and Young Lawyer sections of the Clark County Bar Association. I also serve as a pro bono volunteer attorney and member of the board of directors at the Clark County Volunteer Lawyers Program, which provides representation to low-income residents of Clark County.

In 2010, I married my beautiful wife, Francesca. We have two children, Ellie and Jack. We live in the Hough neighborhood in downtown Vancouver. We spend most of our free time skiing, attending Timbers games, and BBQing with friends.
